Complimentary parking in Columbia supports local businesses during festive season

Columbia, South Carolina – To celebrate Christmas and the New Year, the City of Columbia Parking Services announced its yearly tradition of providing free parking, therefore adding festive cheer to both locals and guests. During the busy holiday season, this program seeks to simplify holiday travel and promote shopping, dining, and visiting local businesses.

Free on-street parking over Christmas and New Year’s

On Tuesday, December 24, on-street parking meters will run as usual until 6:00 p.m.; parking will then be free citywide for Christmas. Except in the Five Points neighborhood, where enforcement will be active between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., meter enforcement will remain stopped throughout Christmas Day; operations will resume on Thursday, December 26. Citywide normal meter operations will resume Friday, December 27 at 9:00 a.m.

Parking will also be free citywide as part of a standing ordinance on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, New Year’s Day. This gives drivers hassle-free celebrations of the coming of the new year.
