Charleston, South Carolina – Through its Community Giving initiative for the fiscal year 2025, South Carolina Ports has committed $260,000 to different community organizations across the state. This year’s contribution is the highest in the 11-year history of the project, significantly helping 94 various NGOs and groups emphasizing on important issues such food security, family support, environmental awareness, and education.
SC Ports President and CEO, Barbara Melvin, underlined the mutually beneficial link between the company and the community.
“SC Ports invests in South Carolina, because South Carolinians invest in us, working to support 1 in 9 jobs tied to the Port,” SC Ports President & CEO Barbara Melvin said. “These 94 organizations do impactful work in their communities, and we are proud to assist in supporting their operations.”
SC Ports’ dedication to community welfare and development is significantly enhanced by the Community Giving Program. Originally launched in 2013, the initiative has regularly set aside a percentage of its income to assist nonprofit groups advancing marine trade, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and community engagement, thereby totaling approximately $1.3 million to be given to different causes.

Applications for the next cycle of awards are set to open early in the fiscal year 2026, with specifics and requirements to be made accessible on the SC Ports website. Companies looking to benefit from this program are encouraged to focus their efforts on areas related to the operational and community goals of the ports.
