“You’re an embarrassment:” S.C. lawmaker proposed Trump-face dollar bill, then gets roasted online

South Carolina – South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson has revealed intentions to introduce legislation featuring former President Donald Trump’s face on a newly proposed $250 bill, thus highlighting the profound respect some Republicans have for the president. Some GOP legislators are working on a larger project including this one to recognize Trump’s presidency and economic policies.

Leveraging the symbolic value of money, Rep. Wilson aims to honor Trump’s financial legacy among what he refers to as “Bidenflation,” a word used to symbolize the highest inflation rates of 9.1 percent experienced under President Joe Biden’s government.

Wilson contends that the rising inflation has forced Americans to carry more physical cash, hence the release of a greater denomination bill is relevant, at least according to him.

“Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump,” Wilson posted on X last week.

He added, “Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash. Most valuable bill for most valuable President!”

The proposal to place Trump on the $250 bill is unconventional, given that U.S. currency typically features figures who are no longer living, adhering to federal laws that prevent living persons from being depicted on national currency.

American paper money today comes in seven values: $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills. The figures on these notes include past presidents and founding fathers like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin.

It is noteworthy that there is no $250 bill in circulation, and high-denomination bills such as the $500 and $1,000 were discontinued in 1969 due to their minimal use. The Treasury Department, in charge of designing and printing money, has always chosen people for this honor who are renowned across American history and have great significance to the public.

This proposal is among several other efforts by House Republicans to immortalize Trump’s legacy. For instance, New York Representative Claudia Tenny has suggested celebrating Trump’s birthday, June 14, a federal holiday aligned with Flag Day.

Georgia Representative Buddy Carter wants Greenland to be renamed “Red, White, and Blueland” in honor of Trump’s interest in purchasing the region; Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna suggested including Trump’s likeness to Mount Rushmore.

The flurry of ideas highlights a large section of the Republican Party that keeps supporting Trump’s impact on American politics and policy. Whether through massive carvings, legislative reforms, or now possibly through the very currency Americans carry daily, these symbolic projects seek to embed Trump’s legacy in the fabric of the country.

Though it remains to be seen whether these ideas can acquire the required momentum or acceptance, they certainly show the ongoing allegiance Trump commands among his supporters.

Rep. Wilson post on X didn’t go unnoticed. Most of the comments under the Trump-bill post were making fun of the lawmaker and the idea itself.

Starting to think this is a parody account. You think we carry $250 around? You are out of touch Joe,” one user said.

“Do you all do ANYTHING for the people??? Anything at all??,” another user added.

THE PARZIVAL also commented on the post, stating: “How does this fix any of America’s problems? Now get to work on actual important stuff Joe!”

“You’re an embarrassment,” another used commented.

Reflecting to the currently skyrocketing egg prices, another user added: “Great idea! Now we have a large enough bill to pay for a single carton of eggs. Way things are going, in a month you will have to make a $470 bill.”
