Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina’s export economy climbed to its strongest level in seven years in 2025, with total sales reaching $38.5 billion, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The figure reflects a 1.5% increase over the previous year and aligns with overall national export growth.
State officials said the numbers highlight steady global demand for goods produced in South Carolina. Governor Henry McMaster, alongside the South Carolina Department of Commerce and South Carolina Ports, pointed to the state’s manufacturing base as a driving force behind the milestone.
He noted that South Carolina again led the nation in the export of completed passenger vehicles and tires, crediting the state’s skilled workforce and the confidence international markets place in its products.

Motor vehicles and parts accounted for the largest share of export activity in 2025. Completed passenger vehicles alone generated $11.8 billion in export sales revenue. South Carolina held 18% of the total U.S. market share for completed passenger vehicle exports, totaling $9.8 billion.
Tires remained another cornerstone of the state’s trade portfolio. For the 11th consecutive year, South Carolina ranked first nationally in tire exports, with $2 billion in sales — representing 43% of the U.S. market share and a 7% increase from the year before.

Aircraft and parts, along with machinery and parts, were also among the top-performing export categories. Aircraft exports saw notable growth, with market share rising 31% compared to 2024.
Increased shipments to Qatar and Taiwan pushed both countries into the state’s top 10 export partners. Germany retained its position as South Carolina’s largest export destination, with $5.1 billion in sales, a 3.5% increase year over year. Mexico and Canada followed closely behind.
In addition, South Carolina ranked second nationally in the export of ball and roller bearings, capturing 10.5% of the U.S. market share and generating $287 million in sales.
Overall, South Carolina exported goods to 198 countries and territories across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East in 2025. State officials encouraged companies seeking to expand internationally to explore export incentives and connect with the Department of Commerce’s international trade team, as the state builds on its strongest export performance in nearly a decade.
