Residents invited to voice concerns and shape future projects with Florence officials next week

Florence, South Carolina – The Community Development Committee and Florence Mayor Lethonia Barnes have been working together to prepare a community meeting for Monday night, June 16, 2025. The event will bring together a diverse group of local leaders, including people from churches, non-profits, and businesses, in a focused effort to address crime prevention and support community development across Florence.

The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers on the first floor of City Center, 324 W. Evans Street. City officials say that the meeting is part of a larger plan to encourage city leaders and important community members to talk to each other and work together.

The main topic of the gathering will be a presentation about the ongoing and planned initiatives to make Florence safer and better for everyone. People who come will be encouraged to voice their concerns, tell their stories, and ask questions directly to Mayor Barnes and the committee members. The people in charge of this event hope that this method will help them see the unique problems that neighborhoods are facing more clearly and also show them how they can work together in a meaningful way.

The agenda is likely to include a number of crime prevention subjects, including as programs to make neighborhoods safer, getting young people involved, and working with local police. The committee will also give updates on other community development projects that are meant to help locals and give families and businesses additional resources.

The meeting is not just for listening, but also for coming up with a plan for the future. City leaders said they want to use the knowledge and dedication of church leaders, philanthropic groups, and business owners, all of whom are important to the future of Florence.

The officials of Florence think that getting people together for open conversations is a very important step as the city continues to change and face new problems. The gathering on Monday is meant to promote both openness and trust, as well as encourage people to get involved in the advancement of their community.
