New water main installation brings temporary disruptions to several Florence neighborhoods

Florence, South Carolina – As the City of Florence presses forward with important water infrastructure maintenance, residents in some neighborhoods of Florence have been advised to get ready for a temporary loss of water service and then a mandatory boil water advisory.

The City of Florence Utilities Department has announced that water will be turned off from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, for homes and businesses along Bentree Lane, Wildwood Drive, Holly Circle, Lockhaven Drive, Woodland Drive, and the 2200–2400 blocks of West Palmetto Street. The South Carolina Department of Transportation is working to widen local roadways, so this planned disturbance is part of a bigger project to put in a new water main along Holly Circle.

City workers will flush the impacted water lines to get rid of any debris or trapped air once the water service starts up again in the early morning. During this period, individuals may notice that the water looks cloudy or discolored, and they may also hear strange noises as air escapes from their pipes. City officials said that this is a regular component of the flushing process and should go away after a short time of running the taps.

If the water pressure drops for a short time, there is a greater chance that pollutants could get into the water system. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services says that the City of Florence must issue a boil water advisory for all affected addresses to safeguard public health. This advice strongly suggests that people boil all of their tap water for at least a minute before using it to drink, cook, or make ice. If you manufactured ice with water that wasn’t boiled during this time, you should throw it away.

City officials have made it clear that this advisory is only a precaution and will continue in place until more tests can show that the water is safe. Water quality samples are expected to be collected and tested on Thursday, June 12, 2025. The City will let customers know what the advisory status is once the results are in. Families with young children, older adults, or anyone with health problems that make them more likely to get sick from waterborne contaminants should be extra careful until then.

A precise map showing the exact neighborhoods that are affected has been provided, and locals are urged to look it over to determine if their home or business is in the affected area. Please call the City of Florence Utilities Department at 843-665-3236 or the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services at 843-661-4825 if you have any questions or concerns.

The City acknowledges that these kinds of disruptions can be inconvenient and thanks residents for their patience as crews work overnight to make improvements. City authorities stress that the improvements are necessary to meet the needs of the increasing infrastructure and to make sure that water delivery is reliable for a long time to come.
