April 6 shooting investigation leads to arrest on multiple violent crime charges

Florence, South Carolina – Florence police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting investigation that began earlier this month, though authorities say the case is not yet closed.

The Florence Police Department announced that Emari McCray was arrested on April 28, 2026, in connection with a shooting that happened on April 6 in the 1300 block of W. Palmetto Street. The incident was first reported to police the following day, on April 7.

According to investigators, McCray was one of two people inside a vehicle when gunfire was allegedly directed at the victim’s vehicle while both were traveling along Palmetto Street. Police said the second person involved has not yet been identified.

McCray is now facing several charges tied to the case, including attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and aggravated breach of peace.

The charges mark a major step in the investigation, but police emphasized that the work continues. Detectives are still trying to identify and locate the second unknown suspect believed to have been in the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

Authorities said additional details are available in the warrant connected to the case.
