City of Florence invites future buyers to learn first steps toward owning a home, program offers guidance for first-time homebuyers

Florence, South Carolina – Florence residents who are thinking about buying a home will have another chance in May to learn one of the most important early steps in the process: getting pre-approved for a mortgage.

The City of Florence says the next Credit Counseling and Homeownership Workshop will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. inside Council Chambers at the City of Florence City Center, located at 324 W. Evans Street in Florence.

This month’s topic, “Getting Pre-Approved for a Mortgage,” is aimed at people who may be ready to begin the homebuying journey but are not sure where to start. For many buyers, pre-approval is the first real step because it gives a clearer picture of what they may be able to afford before they begin looking at homes.

City officials say the workshop will explain how pre-approval can help buyers understand their budget, move more quickly when they find the right property, and make their offer stronger in a competitive market.

Instead of guessing what price range may be realistic, participants can learn why having financial information reviewed early may make the rest of the process smoother.

The meeting is also designed for residents who want to ask questions, gather basic guidance, and become more confident before making major housing decisions.

Buying a home can feel overwhelming, especially for first-time buyers, but workshops like this give people a place to slow down, learn the steps, and prepare with better information.

Anyone planning to attend is asked to RSVP before Wednesday, May 13. The event will take place at the City Center Council Chambers at 324 W. Evans Street, Florence, SC 29501.
