Armed suspect receiving treatment after officer-involved shooting on Saturday on Florence

Florence, South Carolina – A Saturday morning police call in Florence ended with a suspect shot, in custody and receiving medical treatment after what authorities described as an apparent hostage situation.

According to WLTC citing the Florence Police Department, officers were sent to Rushmore Loop at about 9:15 a.m. after receiving a report involving an armed suspect and a female victim.

When officers arrived, they learned the suspect was allegedly carrying a knife and holding the woman against her will.

What began as a tense response quickly shifted as officers tried to bring the situation under control. According to police, the suspect eventually ran from officers while still armed with the knife. During the incident, authorities said it developed into an “officer-involved shooting,” and the suspect was struck by gunfire.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody after the shooting and is now receiving treatment. Officials did not immediately release the suspect’s name or provide additional details about the person’s condition.

The woman who was reportedly being held against her will was also being checked for injuries. Police said she appeared to be OK. No officers were injured during the incident.

Following the shooting, the Florence Police Department requested that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigate. SLED commonly reviews officer-involved shootings in the state to provide an outside investigation into what happened.

Florence police said any further questions about the case should be directed to SLED as the investigation continues.
