Timmonsville man jailed after Florence County investigators detail troubling allegations involving teen

Florence, South Carolina – A late-night sequence of decisions has now drawn the attention of law enforcement in Florence County, where investigators say a troubling chain of events involving a minor led to an arrest at the start of April.

Authorities with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office report that 25-year-old Anthony Robert Melo, of Timmonsville, was taken into custody on April 1, 2026, following an investigation into alleged conduct that unfolded just days earlier.

The charges, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disseminating harmful material to a minor, stem from what investigators describe as a deliberate series of actions involving a 16-year-old.

According to officials, the incident traces back to the night of March 28.

Investigators allege that Melo drove to the minor’s residence late in the evening and transported the teen away from home. During that time, authorities say the situation escalated beyond poor judgment into criminal behavior.

Melo is accused of knowingly exposing the minor to pornographic material, a violation that carries serious legal consequences under South Carolina law.

The allegations do not end there. Investigators further state that Melo provided the minor with alcohol and a vape, compounding the severity of the case and raising additional concerns about the safety and well-being of the juvenile involved.

Following his arrest, Melo was booked into the Florence County Detention Center, where he remains in custody awaiting a bond hearing. Officials have directed the public to review additional details through the sheriff’s office booking portal, available at https://www.fcso.org.

While the legal process now moves forward, the case underscores the ongoing efforts by local authorities to address incidents involving minors and to respond swiftly when boundaries are crossed.
