South Carolina State Fair hiring nearly 500 seasonal workers for fall 2025 event

Columbia, South Carolina – The South Carolina State Fair is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join its staff for the fall season of 2025. The S.C. State Fairgrounds will host the state’s most popular yearly event from October 8 to 19. They are now hiring for almost 500 temporary jobs that will assist to bring this large-scale celebration to life.

The fair has a lot of jobs that give more than just a salary. Whether you’re a retiree seeking for seasonal work, a student searching for a short-term career, or just someone who wants to be part of a long-standing South Carolina tradition, the fair has a position for you. You can now apply for jobs via the fair’s official website.

General Manager Nancy Smith emphasized the unique experience that comes with working at the fair.

“With nearly 500 temporary positions available each fall, we’re proud that many of our workers return year after year,” says Nancy Smith, general manager of the S.C. State Fair. “It’s a fun, welcoming environment where employees become part of something bigger — supporting a nonprofit that gives back across the state.”

This year’s theme, Harvesting Happiness, is more than just branding — it’s a reflection of the upbeat spirit that organizers hope workers will bring to every corner of the fairgrounds. Kathy Allen, the fair’s director of human resources and marketing, shared, “We’re looking for people who want to share that spirit with our guests.”

Building attendants, circus ushers, guest service workers (preferably multilingual Spanish/English speakers), parking and gate staff, S.C. Grown Marketplace attendants, and arts, crafts, and exhibit entry aides are all examples of temporary jobs. Some occupations may start before the fair opens, such those that help with judging baked goods and crafts. Others may last until after the show closes to help with returns.

While the pay may be modest, the perks are plentiful. Staff members get VIP parking, free entry, and two guest permits. They also get a free breakfast with a collectible pin, a themed t-shirt and cap, and the possibility to win awards and be named MVP. The chance to be part of something fun and important, and to develop friends that will last, may be even more valuable.
