Midlands Gives Day aims to unite community in generosity on May 7

Columbia, South Carolina – Midlands Gives Day, an 18-hour online fundraiser, is set for Tuesday, May 7. This event involves over 600 nonprofits from 11 counties in the Midlands area, organized by the Central Carolina Community Foundation. People interested in donating can visit MidlandsGives.org to explore and select nonprofits by location and type. The minimum amount to donate is $10, making it easy for anyone to contribute.

This year features a special contribution from an anonymous benefactor known as Cheerful Giver, who has pledged $639,500 in matching funds to 174 nonprofits. Additionally, nonprofits participating in Midlands Gives can compete for more than $90,000 in prizes sponsored by various organizations. To mark this occasion of generosity, everyone is invited to a block party at Segra Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 7, regardless of the weather. The event will include games, free hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks as long as they last.

During the celebration, attendees can also win prizes such as experiences with the Columbia Fireflies, engage with others from the community, and support local nonprofits.

“Midlands Gives Day is not only about raising funds; it’s about bringing our community together to make a meaningful difference,” says Erin Johnson, vice president of community investment. “Every donation, no matter the size, can transform lives and strengthen our community.”
