Late-night ambush shocks Florence as gunman opens fire on moving car, authorities seek public help

Florence, South Carolina – Florence police are asking for the public’s help as investigators continue working to piece together a late-night shooting on West Palmetto Street that left one person wounded.

According to the Florence Police Department, officers were called to the 1300 block of W. Palmetto Street at about 10 p.m. on April 6 after reports of gunfire in the area.

Not long after police arrived, a gunshot victim showed up at a local hospital with multiple wounds.

As investigators began sorting through what happened, they learned the victim had been driving east on Palmetto Street when another vehicle pulled up alongside the car and opened fire.

The victim was hit several times during the shooting.

Despite the violence of the attack, the victim survived and received medical treatment. Police said the individual is now listed in stable condition.

Detectives have since gathered information about the vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting, though the case remains active and ongoing.

Authorities have not released additional details publicly as the investigation continues.

Now, officers are urging anyone who may have seen something or knows anything about the incident to come forward.

Florence police said even a small detail could prove important as detectives work to identify those involved and move the case forward.

“Tipsters do not have to identify themselves,” the department said, adding that residents can use the same form to share information about this case or any other active investigation.

For now, the focus remains on finding out who was behind the gunfire and why the shooting happened on one of Florence’s main roadways.
