Florence, South Carolina – What began as a quiet spring evening in Florence nearly two years ago has steadily unfolded into a case that investigators refused to let fade.
Now, with a second arrest, authorities say the long pursuit of answers in the killing of Rashawn Dickerson has taken another decisive step forward.
According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies have arrested 23-year-old Marquez Jah’Rion Black in connection with the April 8, 2023 shooting on Pindo Court in Florence, South Carolina.
Investigators allege that the violence was not random, but tied to an armed robbery that turned deadly.
Dickerson was sitting inside his vehicle when he was shot multiple times, an attack that left him dead at the scene. In the months that followed, the case remained active, with investigators continuing to piece together what had happened that night.
Their efforts led to the first break in November 2025, when Deporcha Devorica Miller was taken into custody and charged with murder. Since then, Miller has remained held without bond at the Florence County Detention Center.
The latest arrest adds another layer to the case. Authorities say Black was involved in the same incident and has now been formally charged with murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery under South Carolina law. He was taken into custody on March 30, 2026, and is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center as he awaits a bond hearing.

Investigators believe the shooting occurred during the course of a robbery, with Dickerson becoming the victim of escalating violence. While officials have not released further details about the events leading up to the shooting, they emphasize that the case has been built carefully over time, with each development supported by ongoing investigative work.
The arrests, separated by months, reflect what authorities describe as a deliberate and methodical process. Rather than rushing to close the case, investigators continued to follow leads, ensuring that all individuals believed to be involved were identified and charged.
As the case now moves forward through the court system, both suspects remain in custody, and the focus shifts from investigation to prosecution.
For the community, the second arrest signals progress in a case that has lingered since 2023, offering a sense that the events of that night are finally being fully addressed.
