Columbia, South Carolina – Dominion Energy has said that it will start pruning trees on Monday, November 3, 2025. The work will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will cover various areas as part of an annual effort to keep the city’s electric service safe and reliable.
Tree trimming will take place along overhead distribution lines in many neighborhoods, such as College Place, North College Place, Fairwold Acres/Harlem Heights, Eva P. Trezevant, Edgewood Floral Club, Jones McDonald, Barhamville Estate, Jaggers Plaza, Bradley, Godbold Place, Rochelle Heights/Victory Garden, Druid Hills, and Forest Hills North.

Dominion Energy’s certified contractors will do the trimming, and the City’s Forestry and Beautification Division will supervise it. City arborists will keep an eye on the job to make sure it meets professional standards and avoids harming the trees more than necessary. The company said that all trimming will follow the International Society of Arboriculture’s ANSI A300 pruning standards. These strategies help trees develop properly and stay healthy for a long time, and they also make it less likely that electricity lines will get in the way.
Dominion Energy says that managing vegetation is an important aspect of keeping service running smoothly and making it more reliable overall. Crews will cut down branches that are 8 to 12 feet below and next to power lines, as well as up to 20 feet above them. This will make sure that there is a clean area around electrical equipment. The corporation is also doing more “re-conductor” work, which means replacing poles and putting in new wires in some places to make the grid even stronger.
People who live in the area and have questions or concerns about the work that is coming up should call the City’s Forestry and Beautification office at 803-545-3860 or Dominion Energy directly at 1-800-562-9308. Property owners who want to talk about certain trees near their residences can set up a meeting with company officials before work starts.
For convenience, Dominion Energy has launched an online tracking tool that allows residents to see where crews are working in real time. The map can be accessed at https://treetrimming.dominionenergyse.com.
