Columbia finalizes candidate list for high-stakes municipal election on November 4

Columbia, South Carolina – The City of Columbia has finished making the list of people who will be on the ballot for the municipal election on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. The election will determine the next mayor and fill numerous important council seats, such as those in District One, District Four, and an At-Large seat.

The filing period started at noon on August 1 and ended at noon on August 15. This was the last chance for anybody who wanted to run for office to qualify. Now that the field is formed, voters will have a lot of options in each race.

Three people have come forward to run for mayor. Daniel J. Rickenmann, the current mayor, is running for re-election. Jessica S. Thomas and Wade H. Fulmer, Jr. have also entered the campaign, making it a competitive race for the city’s top job.

There is a lot of interest in the At-Large City Council seat, with four people running for it. Aditi Bussells, who is currently on the council, is seeking another term. She is up against Tony Bowen, Sam Johnson, and Jared Johnson. The result of this contest will have a big impact on how the whole council works.

Tina N. Herbert, the current representative for District One, will run against Christa Williams. Peter M. Brown, the current representative for District Four, is running for re-election and will face Ashley McCall and Julie Lumpkin. In both district campaigns, there are those who have run before and newcomers who want to take on leadership responsibilities.

In November, residents across Columbia will be able to vote on who will run the city for the next few years. The results might change the council’s policy goals and overall balance because incumbents are facing tough fight in almost every race.
