City of Columbia to host Touch-A-Truck event on May 4

Columbia, South Carolina – The City of Columbia is excited to host the much-anticipated Touch-A-Truck event again this year, taking place at the Soda City Market on Saturday, May 4, 2024. This event, a collaborative effort by the City of Columbia Public Works Department and other city departments, is set to provide a fun and interactive experience for community members from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Located in the heart of downtown at the 1700 Block of Main Street, visitors will have the chance to see and touch a variety of the city’s most essential vehicles and equipment. This includes an array of specialized machinery from the Columbia Police Department, Columbia-Richland Fire Department, Columbia Water, Parking Services, and Parks and Recreation. Featured equipment will range from the city’s biggest trucks to a mini-excavator, a backhoe, and even a bomb-disposal robot.

Returning for its second year, the Touch-A-Truck event builds on the success of the previous year, inviting the public to engage with the tools used to maintain and safeguard their community. Throughout the day, there will be live demonstrations showing how these vehicles work, aimed at providing both educational and entertaining insights. City employees will be present to conduct these demonstrations and discuss the important roles these vehicles play in supporting Columbia’s infrastructure.

Admission to the Touch-A-Truck event is free, highlighting the City of Columbia’s dedication to fostering community involvement and education. It’s a perfect outing for families, offering children a chance to learn through hands-on interaction with big machines, making learning fun and memorable.
