City of Columbia hosts workshop to fund local efforts tackling opioid crisis

Columbia, South Carolina – The Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) in the City of Columbia is inviting community service providers to a session about the SCORF Project. The event is for groups that want to work with ONSE and will give them information about financing options related to the Opioid Abatement Program for 2025–2026.

The session will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Eau Claire Print Building, which is at 3907 Ensor Avenue in Columbia. It will be an important place for local groups to find out about ways to work together to help prevent, treat, and recover from opioid use in the community.

Participants will get a full picture of how the program works, including what is expected of supported partners and what the Opioid Abatement initiative’s specific scope of work is. Organizers will also talk about prior achievements and how the city is still working to stop opioid abuse and how it affects neighborhoods.

Columbia is working to improve its partnerships with community organizations that deal with substance abuse and public safety issues. The SCORF Project Workshop is one element of this larger endeavor. By giving money and technical help, ONSE wants to help local partners improve their ability to provide effective, evidence-based services that support long-term recovery and resilience.

Community groups that want to apply for funds or learn more about the city’s plan to deal with opioids are welcome to attend. The session will include step-by-step directions on how to become an official partner in the program. This is a great chance for people who want to make a real difference in the fight against the opioid crisis in Columbia.

People who want to know more can get in touch with Amy Free at the City of Columbia’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, which is at 1401 Main Street. You can call her at (803) 545-3089 or email her at [email protected].
