Third Magnolia Mall shooting suspect arrested, denied bond

Florence County, South Carolina – On Friday, a judge decided that Damarcus Legette, the third person caught for the Magnolia Mall shooting, won’t be given a bond. Legette faced the judge that morning to hear the charges against him.

Captain Starling shared that Legette gave himself up to the police the night before. He faces serious charges including murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and criminal conspiracy. Judge Rangeley C. Bailey was in charge of the court session.

During the hearing, Judge Bailey explained to Legette that she wasn’t allowed to give him a bond for the murder and armed robbery charges. These charges need to be handled by a higher court. Earlier in the week, two others, 18-year-old Javon Norman and a 15-year-old, were also arrested for their roles in the same crime. Like Legette, they are accused of murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and criminal conspiracy.

On Tuesday, Javon Norman was in court where they set his bond at $400,000 for carrying a weapon during a violent act and planning a crime. However, he couldn’t get a bond for the armed robbery charge, and a higher court will decide on his murder charge later.

The police rushed to the scene of a shooting in a mall parking lot at about 3 p.m. on Sunday. The incident happened on David McLeod Boulevard. Emergency services took the victim to the hospital, where he was declared dead. The victim was identified as 15-year-old Avery S. McDonald from Sellers, and his autopsy was planned for Wednesday at MUSC.

The early investigation found that two masked individuals approached the victim, and at least one of them fired shots. According to arrest warrants for Norman, other people there said the two showed guns and demanded valuables in an attempted robbery.

The attackers are believed to have left in what might be a gold Ford Escape from the early 2000s. The shooting seems to have been a deliberate attack. With the help of Flock Safety Camera systems near Marion County, Florence police managed to track down and identify the getaway car in Marion by Monday.
