South Carolina continues to be top state for business as another massive investment is set to bring 700 jobs

Greenville County, South Carolina – Renowned commercial vehicle provider Isuzu North America Corporation has decided to establish a new manufacturing site in Greenville County, therefore significantly expanding its activities in the United States. With an estimated to create more than 700 new employments in the area, the corporation intends to invest $280 million into this project.

A strategic decision to boost North America activity and sales

Renowned for its line of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, Isuzu is a division of the worldwide powerhouse Isuzu Motors Limited. Having entered the North American market in 1984, the company achieved a record 44,000-unit sale in the previous fiscal year. The new Greenville County factory is a strategic step to increase Isuzu’s supply capacity throughout North America.

Along Augusta Road, the corporation has purchased a vast 1 million-square-foot building covering more than 200 acres. This location is scheduled to be turned into a state-of-the-art assembly facility. The plant will include a flexible manufacturing line able to produce electric vehicles as well as conventional internal combustion engine cars.

This line will generate the F-Series Diesel, N-Series Electric, and N-Series Gas trucks among other variants. Once running, the factory looks for 50,000 units of yearly capacity.

Fully operational facility by 2027

Operations at the new facility are set to start in 2027; Isuzu guarantees to provide further information on job prospects in the next months. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development supports this effort and has authorized project job development credits. Greenville County also received a $7 million Closing Fund Grant to support site planning and construction initiatives.

Citing numerous reasons that lead to Greenville County being their new location, Isuzu North America Corporation President Noboru Murakami demonstrated enthusiasm about the new initiative.

“Isuzu carefully considered numerous factors when deciding where to locate its new production base, said Isuzu North America Corporation President Noboru Murakami.

“We found everything that we wanted and more in the State of South Carolina and Greenville County: a supportive business environment, excellent access to transportation, proximity to the Port of Charleston, an excellent labor pool, a skilled workforce being produced by nearby colleges, and the benefits of joining a large and growing automotive production base. We look forward to starting up our operations and making a positive contribution to the state and the local community,” Murakami added.

Governor Henry McMaster enthusiastic about the project

Governor Henry McMaster also commented on this development, highlighting the significance of Isuzu’s decision for South Carolina’s automotive industry.

“Isuzu’s decision to establish operations and create more than 700 new jobs in Greenville County reinforces South Carolina as a top destination for the automotive industry. We celebrate this significant investment and all that it will mean for our people, and we look forward to witnessing the transformative impact this announcement will have in the years ahead,” said Gov. Henry McMaster
