Citizens Police Academy returns to Florence for seven-week community program

Florence, South Carolina – Announcing the comeback of its popular Citizens Police Academy for Spring 2025, the Florence Police Department offers local citizens an opportunity to learn about law enforcement operations from the inside out. Scheduled to start on April 1, 2025, the academy seeks to improve community relations and openness by teaching the public about the difficulties of police work.

The seven-week program is meant to provide community members with a perceptive view of the daily operations and responsibilities of the police force. Participants will meet every Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, engaging in a variety of activities that include live demonstrations and presentations by experienced officers and specialty teams within the department.

This program is crucial for building trust and understanding between the police and the community. Informed citizens are better equipped to support and collaborate with law enforcement in creating a safer community.

From tactical processes and forensic science to community policing and the use of force, the Citizens Police Academy addresses a wide spectrum of subjects. Every session is meant to be interactive, let participants ask questions and engage in debates. Participants will also have the opportunity to undergo practical training in a controlled environment, therefore providing a real sense of the difficulties and decisions police officers deal with daily.

The program’s live demonstrations by the department’s specialist teams—such as the K-9 squad and the SWAT team—showcasing their abilities and outlining their duties inside the department—are among its best features. These protests offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at the vital tasks these teams handle.
