Mayor Barnes launches series of open discussions with Florence residents to enhance neighborhood development

Florence, South Carolina – Florence Mayor Lethonia Barnes is scheduled to lead a series of open “Fireside Chats” meant to improve neighborhood environments through cooperative discussion and strengthen ties with citizens.

These activities, which are set to take place at several community centers, are a part of a larger project aiming at involving the community and getting comments on local development.

The series will kick off at the newly renamed Mordecai C. Johnson Park Community Center located at 801 Clement Street on January 27, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Following meetings are set for February 6 at the Dr. Iola Jones Park Community Center, February 11 at the Maple Park Community Center, and February 18 at the Levy Park Adult Center.

Every meeting is meant to give residents a forum to directly discuss their opinions with city authorities and learn more about the offerings of community centers.

Every site will have dinner, thereby guaranteeing a friendly and comfortable surroundings for all guests. The “Fireside Chats” are an integral part of Mayor Barnes’s approach to inclusive governance. The Mayor intends to apply practical solutions based on the needs and recommendations of the community, therefore improving the quality of life in the area.

Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in these discussions, as their input is vital in shaping the future initiatives of the community centers and the neighborhoods they serve.
