Florence and Darlington County students invited to apply for Sergeant Terrence Carraway Memorial Scholarship

Florence County, South Carolina – The Florence Police Fund and the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation are proud to announce that they are now accepting applications for the 2025 Sergeant Terrence Carraway Memorial Scholarship.

Established to pay tribute to Sergeant Terrence Carraway, who sadly passed away on October 3, 2018, on line of duty, the scholarship seeks to assist young people from Florence and Darlington counties in their educational goals.

Deeply committed to the young people of his community, Sergeant Carraway’s scholarship carries on his work by enabling qualified students to reach their dreams for higher education.

Each year, the scholarship provides financial assistance to four high school seniors, two from Florence County School District and two from Darlington County School District, who plan to pursue further education at a college or vocational school.

Scholarship details and eligibility

Each recipient of the scholarship gets $1,000, which is given directly to the university where the student plans to attend. Candidates for this esteemed honor have to be seniors in any public or private high school in Florence or Darlington counties.

They also have to either have a GED equivalent or fulfill all high school graduation requirements. Candidates also have to show their intention to enroll following graduation in a two-year or four-year college or vocational school. Citizenship or legal residency in the United States is also required.

How to apply

Candidates who are interested must send a 500 to 600-word essay on a chosen topic, a copy of their current high school transcript, and the finished application form. The application material includes the essay topic and further information; one can get these from the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation’s website directly or via the guidance office of qualified high schools.

Selection criteria

The Sergeant Terrence Carraway Memorial Scholarship application is thorough and competitive. The Terrence F. Carraway Foundation board members and the Florence Police Fund committee carefully go over every submission.

Recipients are selected depending on their academic performance, essay quality, and the strength of the general degree of application. The selection procedure does not discriminate depending on race, sex, gender, color, creed, sexual orientation, disability, national or ethnic origin.
