Gas prices in South Carolina rose last week: report

South Carolina – A new GasBuddy report shows that average gas prices in South Carolina have gone up by 4 cents per gallon in the last week. The survey of 3,028 gas stations in South Carolina shows that prices are slightly higher than they were last month but lower than they were this time last year. Currently, the average price of gas in the state is 0.8 cents per gallon more than it was a month ago and 13.3 cents per gallon less than it was a year ago.

Prices varied a lot last Sunday. The lowest price recorded at a gas station in South Carolina was $2.87 per gallon, and the highest price was a whopping $3.79 per gallon. The average price of gas across the country has also gone up. On average, American drivers paid 3.1 cents per gallon more in the last week, with the average price being $3.60 per gallon. The average national gas price has gone up by 14.2 cents since last month, but it is still 5.5 cents less than it was a year ago.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, explained how conflict in the Middle East is impacting gas prices. “With Iran’s attack on Israel over the weekend, the stakes couldn’t have been higher for a major potential impact on oil and gasoline prices. With the attacks largely thwarted and mostly unsuccessful, and with Iran signaling that their attack will be the end of their response, the risk to crude oil has diminished, and the situation is thankfully likely to de-escalate going forward,” De Haan said.

“If Israel, which has promised to respond with further attacks, indeed does press on, it could certainly still push oil prices higher. However, motorists can expect other factors to influence what they’re paying at the pump. Motorists in the mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S. will soon see a spike in prices as they make the leap to summer gasoline— as much as 20-50 cents per gallon higher in nearly a dozen states. On the West Coast, price increases should finally slow, but the national average will likely climb again in the coming week.”

GasBuddy’s huge network keeps an eye on almost 150,000 gas stations across the country, giving accurate and up-to-date information on gas price trends.
