Florence residents can now apply for CityU Fall 2024 session to learn about city government

Florence, South Carolina – The City of Florence is now welcoming applications for its CityU Fall 2024 session, offering local citizens a rare glimpse behind the curtain of municipal operations. Starting on September 16, the seven-week course is meant to help participants understand how their city runs from the inside out.

CityU seeks to provide Florence residents with the information required to enhance their quality of life and more effectively use city services. Participants will learn throughout the course the duties of the City Council, several boards and commissions, and daily operations of City administration and staff.

With seven sessions scheduled on Mondays, the training is entirely free of charge. Every lesson will run around one and a half hours; the first session is set for 5:00 p.m.; later sessions begin at 5:30 p.m. Every class will take place at the Council Chambers at City Center, at 324 W. Evans St., Florence, South Carolina.

Apart from learning in the classroom, CityU will provide interactive events with department leaders presenting their work. This practical approach seems to offer a complete picture of the budget planning process, development assessment process, and other main operational sectors of the city.

Participants in at least six of the seven sessions will be eligible to finish the course and get an official CityU Graduation Certificate. The course ends with a chance for alumni to visit a City Council Meeting, therefore applying their acquired knowledge in context.
