Darlington County continues Red Apple Pass program, offering free event access to seniors and disabled citizens

Darlington County, South Carolina – The Darlington County School District (DCSD) continues to operate its Red Apple Pass program in a community-oriented project targeted at its senior and disabled citizens. This program helps qualified Darlington County citizens remain connected to the athletic and cultural life of their hometown by granting free entrance to many school-sponsored activities.

The Red Apple Pass lets anyone who are either 60 years old and above or certified as permanently disabled to have free access to events including athletic contests, music concerts, theater productions, and band performances run by any school in the district. The pass does not, however, cover entrance to sports playoffs, championships, or special fundraising activities.

Pass users must show their Red Apple Pass card upon event entrance in order to receive this advantage. These cards—which show the cardholder’s picture—do not require regular renewal, therefore streamlining the user’s experience. Registration for the pass is simple. To get their pass, interested individuals must provide a state-issued photo ID, such a driver’s license, at the district administration facility at 120 E. Smith Ave. in Darlington.

Understanding the necessity for accessibility, the DCSD has set aside certain pass distribution times—available three days a week—Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday—with morning and afternoon sessions to suit different schedules. The district is also planning one-day enrollment sessions at nearby library branches on specified dates in August and September for further ease.

With almost 7,000 passes issued since its start, this initiative is not only a symbol of kindness but also a major community booster, among the biggest of its sort in South Carolina. The Red Apple Pass is evidence of the district’s dedication to diversity and community involvement, thereby guaranteeing that age or disability does not prevent individuals from taking part in and appreciating local school activities.
