Florence man wanted on multiple charges for an early May theft and assault incident arrested on Wednesday

Florence, South Carolina – Local authorities have confirmed that Howard Washington, 36, was arrested and charged on May 8, 2024, by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office with attempted murder, assault with intent to commit criminal se*ual conduct, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and financial transaction card theft. The incident took place around 3:00 a.m. on May 1, 2024, when deputies responded to a call about an assault on South Jeffords Street, Florence.

Investigators say that Washington, living on East Ervin Street, attempted to carry out a se*ual assault while armed with a firearm. He is also accused of attempting to murder the victim through strangulation, causing them to lose consciousness. The investigation turned out that he took the victim’s financial transaction card following the attack and then took money out of their account.

Washington was located by the authorities and apprehended on May 8. He is currently being held without bond at the Florence County Sheriff’s Office detention center. The seriousness of the charges leveled against him is appropriate given the nature of the purported actions.

Officials are still looking into the incident and trying to find out additional information. Anyone having further information on the case or other Washington-related incidents is asked to get in touch with the Sheriff’s Office directly.
