Florence maintains top 50 spot in Economic Health Rankings, Charleston/North Charleston also in top tier

Florence, South Carolina – Area Development magazine recently placed Florence at number 48 among 384 metro areas in the United States in terms of economic health. This rank reflects Florence’s growth into a vibrant and thriving hub for economic activities in its region. This acknowledgement from Area Development magazine emphasizes the city’s outstanding economic development and its path of growth. Florence and Charleston/North Charleston are the two metro areas in South Carolina that are in the top 50.

City Manager Scotty Davis emphasized the importance of maintaining this progress and expanding on their achievements. “It is imperative that we remain committed to sustaining this momentum and building upon our successes. By continuing to invest in infrastructure and sustainable development, we can ensure that our city remains a beacon of progress and prosperity,” City Manager Scotty Davis said in a press release.

The success of Florence is credited to the joint efforts of various stakeholders, including government bodies, businesses, community groups, and residents. Together, they use their combined strengths and seize new opportunities, strengthening Florence’s appeal to businesses and investors.

The rankings by Area Development magazine are based on several key indicators like trends in local gross domestic product, unemployment rates, job growth across various sectors, the alignment of local labor markets with employer needs, and activities in high-tech manufacturing, research and development, and STEM-related fields.
