Liz Cheney, the former Republican Congresswoman from Wyoming, a very vocal and a strong opponent of Donald Trump, has taken a major political action to stop Trump from returning to the White House. She is now asking for support from the public for her cause. Cheney’s initiative comes at a time when House Republicans are making accusations that the January 6 Select Committee “deleted” records and hired “Hollywood producers” to make up a politically charged story about the 2021 Capitol breach by Trump supporters.
Cheney’s role in the House Select Committee
Liz Cheney was a very important part of the investigation into the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, serving as a vice-chair of the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. At the same time as Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois, she worked with other Republicans to shed light on the events that led to the attack and the underlying causes of them. The committee’s work has been a subject of political contention and has led to various reports and allegations about its proceedings and findings.
Betrayal of party
Cheney has encountered criticism for Republicans for the participation in the House Select Committee. Critics say the committee focused too much on former President Trump instead of addressing the Capitol’s security lapses. This stance, alongside her decisions to impeach Trump and her committee involvement, has led some within her party to view her actions as a deviation from party loyalty. This later led to her being removed as from the party leadership within the House Republicans caucus and a lot of opposition from Trump’s supporters.
Cheney wants to stop Trump
Liz Cheney has launched a new political action committee (PAC) which aims to stop the former president re-entering the White House. Cheney, one of two Republicans who were part of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack, announced The Great Task PAC on Wednesday while urging others to “join me in the fight for our nation’s freedom.”

Cheney announcement came after Haley suspended her campaign
The PAC, which draws its name from a quote by Abraham Lincoln, was introduced last Wednesday, a day after Super Tuesday. On Super Tuesday Trump decisively defeated his last competitor in the Republican primaries, Nikki Haley. Earlier this week, both Trump and Biden secured their respective party nominations, setting the stage for a rematch in the upcoming November general election.
“The GOP has chosen. They will nominate a man who attempted to overturn an election and seize power. We have eight months to save our republic & ensure Donald Trump is never anywhere near the Oval Office again.”

What is “The Great Task”
On its website, The Great Task describes itself as a multi-candidate PAC which focuses on “reverence for the rule of law, respect for our Constitution, and a recognition that all citizens have a responsibility to put their duty to the country above partisanship.” “The Great Task is designed to educate and mobilize Americans in a unified effort to ensure that our Republic endures,” it adds.
Will Cheney run for president?
There’s increasing speculation regarding the part Liz Cheney, the former Representative from Wyoming, will play in the 2024 election as President Biden and former President Trump seem headed for a second electoral showdown. Cheney has committed to doing all within her power to prevent Trump from making a comeback to the presidency. Moreover, Cheney has clarified she will not run as a third-party candidate if it risks aiding Trump’s campaign, a statement that has left some Democrats intrigued and even optimistic about the possibility of her endorsing Biden publicly.
“If you had asked me 20 years ago, whether I thought it was a really good idea for Democrats to team up with a Cheney, I would have told you that you were drinking something,” said Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth, as reported by The Hill. “But in this day and age, I think the more democracy-focused folks we have working towards the same goal, the better.”
