City of Florence announces planned water supply interruption for fire hydrant relocation on Meadors Road

Florence, South Carolina – Florence residents, especially those living in the 3300 to 3900 blocks of Meadors Road and surrounding areas including Spring Branch Mobile Home Park, West Pointe Drive, Trotwood Drive, Deshamps Drive, Boulder Drive, and Swamp Fox Campground, should be prepared to experience a temporary disturbance in water supply this coming Tuesday.

Planned to start at 9 a.m., the interruption is required to allow the fire hydrant to be moved within the water system. City officials have given a promise that the service should be back within four hours.

The City of Florence has been advised to provide a boil water advisory by the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services during this period as a precaution. This standard procedure is aimed at guaranteeing public safety following any event that can let bacteria enter the water system, including system changes or maintenance. Before using their water for cooking or drinking, residents impacted by the water outage are recommended to boil it for at least one whole minute.

Moreover, officials reported that the lines will be fully cleansed once the water supply is restored to guarantee safety and cleanliness. This flushing could cause the water to temporarily turn discolored and trap air in domestic plumbing systems. Consumers should let the water run briefly to remove trapped air and clear any discoloration.

The city expects to have test results for bacterial quality by Wednesday following the completion of the work. The City of Florence tries to minimize inconvenience and values the patience and cooperation of every resident affected by this required public safety enhancement. Residents are advised to get ready for this temporary disturbance and follow closely the boil water alert till it is lifted.
