Rock Hill, South Carolina – California Gov. Gavin Newsom is set to appear in Rock Hill on Monday evening as part of a national tour promoting his new memoir, Young Man in a Hurry. The event, billed as “An Evening with Governor Gavin Newsom,” will take place at McGirt Auditorium at 6:30 p.m., according to the official listing. South Carolina is only one of the several states Gov. Newsom plans to visit in the coming days, News Sickle Arrow reported.
Newsom is a Democrat who has been in charge of California since 2019. Before that, he was the state’s lieutenant governor and mayor of San Francisco. He has been one of the most well-known Democratic governors in the country over the past several years.

He often gets national recognition for his views on health care, climate change, and gun control, as well as for his harsh criticism of former President Donald Trump.
While Monday’s event is mostly about his memoir, political analysts have been keeping a careful eye on the tour. Political experts regularly talk about Newsom as a prospective candidate for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination. He is limited to two terms and will leave office in 2027. South Carolina is where the Democratic Party usually holds its first presidential primary, so a stop in Rock Hill is important.

Reports say that the book tour is part of a bigger plan to visit states that vote Republican before going to bigger Democratic strongholds like New York and Los Angeles. Newsom also plans to make more stops in Berkeley and Clarendon Counties. The exact locations will be announced shortly before the events.
The memoir tells the story of Newsom’s childhood in San Francisco, including his problems with dyslexia, and how he rose through the ranks of California politics. It reflects on defining moments from his tenure as mayor and governor, along with personal stories from his family life.

There will be a moderated conversation and an opportunity for the audience to ask questions at the Rock Hill event. You need a ticket that costs roughly $50 to go in, and that ticket comes with a copy of the book. The event is being hosted by Books-A-Million, with tickets available through Eventbrite.
