Matt Hughes Skate Park in Myrtle Beach is ready for a big opening this coming weekend

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – Myrtle Beach is excited to introduce the new skateboarding bowl at Matt Hughes Skate Park with a big celebration.

Back in January, the city shared news that the skate park would close for a bit to add some cool new things, including a brand-new bowl.

Everyone’s invited on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 10:00 a.m. to check out all the upgrades and have some fun.

The Myrtle Beach Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Department, along with Friends of the Skatepark Foundation and Heart of Stoke, are putting together a brief event to mark the occasion.

If you’re coming to skate, don’t forget your helmet and pads, as suggested by the organizers.

Myrtle Beach started the works last month

In early January, Myrtle Beach announced that Matt Hughes Skate Park would be closed for a bit to add some new features, including a fancy new bowl.

The project’s got a nice boost with $35,000 from the Friends of Skateparks Foundation and another $60,000 from the City of Myrtle Beach, making sure the skatepark gets some cool upgrades for free.

This park, the only one for skaters in Myrtle Beach, honors Matthew Reed Hughes, a skater from the area. It’s right next to the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center and Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Officials also said that they’re also swapping out an old wooden halfpipe for a brand-new bowl that’s 50 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 5 feet deep. They haven’t told us yet when it’ll reopen, but they say they’ll share the date soon.
