Florence, South Carolina – A major investment is taking shape in Florence County as Cheney Brothers, a well-known food distribution company, moves forward with plans to expand its local operations.
The Florida-based distributor said it would spend $42.5 million upgrading its Florence facility. This is projected to create 85 new employment and strengthen the company’s growing footprint in South Carolina.

Cheney Brothers sends a lot of different kinds of food to businesses all around the United States. It has a wide range of products, including fresh meat and fish, dairy products, frozen foods, and dry groceries.
The company not only sells food, but it also sells kitchen and bar equipment and gives design services for kitchens and bars. It has everything restaurants and hotels need to run their businesses.
The company’s distribution plant at 2491 Florence Harllee Boulevard in Florence is where the expansion will take place. Construction on the facility first began in 2023, and operations at the site are already underway. The company wants to use this new investment to make its distribution network in the area even stronger and improve its capacity.
Leaders at the state and local levels say the initiative is another step forward for the economy of Florence County. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development authorized job development credits for the project and gave Florence County a $200,000 Set-Aside grant.
The money will assist pay for things like getting the site ready and supporting the development of the structure.
Cheney Brothers CEO Byron Russell praised South Carolina’s business environment, saying the company has been impressed with the state’s supportive approach to economic development.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster also welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the positive impact the expansion will bring to the local workforce.
“By adding 85 new jobs in Florence County, Cheney Brothers is deepening its investment in South Carolina and strengthening the local economy. This expansion will create new opportunities for hardworking South Carolinians and further reinforce our reputation as a place where businesses can succeed,” Gov. Henry McMaster said.
The expansion reinforces Florence County’s role as a hub for logistics and distribution while positioning Cheney Brothers to broaden its reach across the state and beyond.
