Montessori School of Florence prepares weeklong celebration highlighting hands on learning and independence

Florence, South Carolina – A weeklong celebration of curiosity, independence, and hands-on learning is set to unfold in Florence as the Montessori School of Florence prepares to mark Montessori Education Week from February 22 through 28.

The annual event shows off the ideals of Montessori education and gives families and community members a chance to see how the school puts children first in meaningful and accessible ways.

A number of public and school-based events will take place throughout the week to highlight how the Montessori philosophy encourages personal growth and discovery. Local government representatives are set to make official statements from both city and county councils to thank the school for its contributions to education in the area.

Earlier this month, kids went to a Florence City Council meeting related to this award, which showed how involved the school is in the community.

Families who are thinking about enrolling their children will be able to visit the learning space during special open house events for the Pre-Primary and Primary programs.

Visitors will be able to see children doing structured, hands-on activity that is meant to help them become more confident and independent. They will also be able to tour classrooms and meet teachers.

Working together with Francis Marion University will also be a part of the celebration. University students studying education are going to Lower Elementary classes to provide a hands-on science lesson. This is in line with the school’s focus on experiential learning and collaborations that help future teachers.

“Montessori Education Week is a wonderful opportunity for us to share what makes Montessori education so impactful,” said Elizabeth Kahn, Head of School, in a press release.

“We are excited to welcome the community into our classrooms and outdoor spaces to experience how Montessori supports

confident, capable, and compassionate learners.”

The week will end with a free Montessori Nature Walk at the Francis Marion University Freshwater Ecology Center on February 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. The outdoor event is open to everyone and invites kids and families to learn about nature by observing and discovering.

School organizers said that the event is a chance to talk about how Montessori education helps students become smart and kind.

The Montessori School of Florence, which opened in 1976, teaches children from age two to fifth grade. Its main goals are to let each child learn in their own way and to create active members of the community.
