Governor McMaster and First Lady host festive event on December 9 to spread holiday cheer in Columbia

Columbia, South Carolina – Governor Henry McMaster and First Lady Peggy McMaster are extending a warm holiday invitation to all South Carolinians to attend the Governor’s Mansion Christmas Open House. There is no reservation needed for this public free celebration of the season.

Complete with a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, who will welcome visitors all evening, the Open House promises to be a wonderful event, set to take place on Monday, December 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Complementing the holiday celebration will be musical performances by local artists Trudy Wilson and Rhoda Paschal accompanied by soothing sounds of a harp by Cayli Boyle. The tasteful holiday décor, placed by the Columbia Garden Club, which has decorated the Governor’s Mansion every Christmas since 1981, will add to the ambiance.

The decorations this year are particularly festive, with vivid poinsettias supplied by the Gilbert High School Future Farmers of America and Christmas trees imported from Penland Christmas Tree Farm in York, S.C. A unique gingerbread house, replicating the iconic Pineapple Fountain in Charleston, will also be on display, showcasing the creative talents of local decorators.

The first family invites visitors to send gifts for Pawmetto Lifeline, a nearby animal rescue group, in keeping with their charitable nature. Donations of cat or dog food, litter, or toys can be dropped off at the entrance to the Mansion. This caring act will assist to meet the requirements of holiday-time rescued animals.
