Rob Hill named Tennis Professional of the Year for transforming Florence’s tennis scene

Florence, South Carolina – Few people leave in the world of tennis as significantly a change for their hometown as Rob Hill has in Florence, South Carolina. Recently named the Tennis Professional of the Year, Hill is a pillar of Florence’s active tennis scene because of his commitment to the game and the players. His ten-year run as Director of Tennis for City of Florence is evidence of his enthusiasm, leadership, and forward vision for the game.

Hill’s role as Director of Tennis is expansive. At the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence tennis Center, a top facility renowned for its quality in both infrastructure and programming, he manages the operation of 45 courts. Hill oversees courts at three other public parks outside the Tennis Center, with a team of eight employees and up to nine contract specialists. Hill’s organizational skills and relentless dedication to make tennis available to all reflect in this operation.

Hill, a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Teaching Professional, infuses his work with knowledge and energy. Based on USTA techniques, his teaching style promotes skill development and inclusivity. Whether he’s holding clinics, offering private lessons, or coaching other professionals, Hill’s style is distinguished by his capacity to motivate players of all ages and talent levels. His love of learning also permeates his staff, who he motivates to use creative ideas to draw in fresh players and keep experienced ones.

The influence of Hill goes much beyond personal instruction. The Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence tennis Center has gained national attention under his direction; it received USTA Outstanding Tennis Facility Award in 2022 and USTA Premier Facility classification in 2023. These honors highlight Hill’s dedication to quality and his capacity to establish Florence as a tennis center for the surrounding areas.
