Francis Marion University ranks among top Regional Universities in the South, recognized by U.S. News & World Report

Florence, South Carolina – In the latest rankings released by U.S. News & World Report, Francis Marion University (FMU) has once again been distinguished as one of the top Regional Universities in the South. This honor represents more than two decades of continuous recognition for the university in several esteemed divisions.

FMU excelled this year in several important areas. Apart from being among the Best Regional Universities, the university has high ranking among Top Public Regional Schools. Its dedication to easily available and transforming education has shown itself in notable progress in Top Performers on Social Mobility. Underlining its commitment to provide outstanding education at a reasonable cost and supporting those who have served the nation, FMU also continues to be identified as a Best Value School and a Best College for Veterans.

Complementing its achievements, FMU’s academic offerings have earned individual recognition; among the top in the country are the undergraduate programs in business, engineering, nursing, and psychology. The fact that these programs remain included in the U.S. News & World Report rankings attests to the university’s ongoing academic superiority.

“Once again, FMU is pleased to be recognized as one of the best universities in the South,” said FMU President Fred Carter in a news release. “This distinction reflects the remarkable quality of our faculty, and the extraordinary education afforded our students.”

U.S. News & World Report ranks colleges annually using a system based on their academic purpose. FMU is assessed among a pool of 590 universities offering a complete range of undergraduate majors and graduate-level programs since FMU is classified as a regional university. The biggest category consists of institutions evaluated for their extensive offers and wide range of competencies.

U.S. News & World Report ranks colleges using a formula that takes numerous variables into account. Among these are benchmarks of academic performance, faculty resources, student satisfaction, financial resources, and alumni contributions. Especially emphasized is the institution’s capacity to give students upward social and economic mobility, in which FMU has made clear improvement.
