South Carolina Virtual Teacher Expo aims to fill teaching gaps

Columbia, South Carolina – South Carolina’s public school districts are getting ready for the state’s biggest teacher recruitment fair. This event is organized with the aim to help with the current teacher shortage. The South Carolina Virtual Teacher Expo will take place on March 13 and 14, 2024. The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA) is hosting this two-day virtual job fair to connect employers with people who want to become teachers all over the country.

The teacher shortage in South Carolina still a huge problem for state leaders

The event comes at a very important time for South Carolina’s school system. CERRA’s Supply and Demand Report, which came out in November 2023, says that there were 9% more teaching openings in the state at the beginning of the 2023–2024 school year than the previous year. The impacts of over 7,000 teachers leaving their jobs every year can be seen in many districts, especially in special education, math, and science, where there are big gaps.

This year’s virtual expo is more than just a job fair; it’s also an effort to connect people who want to teach with people who are excited about teaching. It offers a unique platform for job seekers from across the state and the country to network with recruiters from South Carolina’s public school districts. The event shows that the state is committed and dedicated about not only filling open positions but also supporting and keeping teachers on their jobs for as long as possible.

Certified teachers, recent graduates of teacher education programs, foreign teachers who meet the requirements for a U.S. visa, and people who are eligible for approved alternative certification programs in South Carolina will all be able to attend the Expo. With this open-door policy, the state hopes to get a wide range of talented individuals to come to its schools.

The Techer Expo is great opportunity for many individuals seeking a career in education

The Teacher Expo is part of a larger plan by CERRA to help South Carolina teachers get hired, stay in their jobs, and move up in their careers. There will also be information on SC teaching licenses and other ways to get certified, making the path to certification clear for people who want to become teachers.

The event represents a beacon of hope for the state’s public schools, signaling a collective effort to ensure that every student in South Carolina has access to a quality education, guided by dedicated and qualified teachers.
