Volunteers needed in Florence to help deliver lifesaving blood and assist during local emergencies

Florence, South Carolina – The American Red Cross is encouraging people in Florence to step up and help where it matters most. They are looking for volunteers that could start with activities as soon as possible. Local Red Cross officials would like people to think about giving their time and compassion to assist fulfill the ongoing needs for blood donation services and emergency response activities. There are numerous important roles that require support.

Right now, there is a pressing need for two Blood Donor Ambassadors in Florence. These volunteers are highly important at blood drives since they greet donors, help them register, answer questions, and show them how to recover after giving blood. A calm presence and a kind face can make all the difference in getting donors to come back. People who want to help out must agree to work at least one shift a month.

The Red Cross is also in a hurry to find Blood Transportation Specialists, in addition to blood drives. These volunteers are the most important link between donation facilities and hospitals. They provide blood products that save lives to the places where they are needed most. It’s important to be reliable and willing to move around, as every delivery could save a life.

The Disaster Action Team (DAT) is continuously looking for new members who are willing to help out in times of need. DAT volunteers are trained to help people and families after calamities like house fires and storms, when their lives have been turned upside down. The Red Cross gives these responders all the training they need to be ready to help when something terrible happens.

There is also a lot of need for Shelter Volunteers. These volunteers assist make sure that people who have to leave their homes because of a big disaster have food, a safe place to sleep, and access to important resources. It takes compassion, patience, and a steady presence to do this job, and it has a direct effect on people when they are at their most vulnerable.

The American Red Cross depends on regular people to do its work, since more than 90% of its staff are volunteers. There is a job for you, whether you have a few hours to spare each month or are ready to train to respond to emergencies.
