Two Florence retail theft investigations prompt police to ask community for help identifying suspects

Florence, South Carolina – Florence police are asking the public for help in two separate shoplifting investigations, as officers work to identify the people believed to be connected to recent incidents at major retail stores in the city.

In one case, the Florence Police Department said the incident was reported under case number 2026-002801.

According to the department, investigators are trying to identify several subjects believed to have been involved in a shoplifting case at 230 N. Beltline Dr., the location of Walmart, on April 19, 2026.

Police urged residents to review the attached images and come forward if anyone looks familiar.

“Please take a moment to view the attached photos and see if you recognize these subjects,” the department said in its public notice.

Anyone with information about that case is asked to contact Cpl. Wheeler by email at [email protected] or by phone at 843-665-3191.

A second case, listed as 2026-002805, involves another shoplifting investigation that happened earlier in the month.

Police said they are seeking help identifying a man believed to have been involved in a theft at 1701 Freedom Blvd., the address for Lowe’s, on April 14, 2026.

As with the Walmart case, investigators released a public appeal in hopes that someone in the community may recognize the subject and provide information that could move the case forward.

Anyone with information related to that investigation is asked to contact Sgt. Chatlosh at [email protected] or call 843-665-3191.

Police also reminded the public that tips do not have to be made directly by phone or email.

People can also submit information through the department’s online tip form at this link. The department noted that tipsters do not have to identify themselves when using the form.

The two cases, though separate, reflect a familiar pattern in which investigators rely on community assistance to help identify people captured in surveillance images.

Public tips can often become the missing piece in cases that might otherwise stall, especially when officers are working to confirm names and movements after an incident.

For Florence police, the message is straightforward: if someone in the photos looks familiar, now is the time to speak up.

Even a small detail could help investigators bring clarity to both cases and determine what happens next.
