Texas Democrat drops radical and inappropriate call on Fani Willis in the Trump case

Until recently, the strategy of Donald Trump’s legal team appeared to be achieving its main objectives—extending the trials in his cases for as much as possible, ideally beyond the upcoming election. Delaying the trials effectively meant that Trump could continue his presidential campaign unfettered, potentially securing a victory over Biden in the forthcoming November general election. Trump is currently facing 91 felony charges across four states, in addition to various lawsuits. However, there has been a significant change in circumstances lately.

Trump lost civil fraud case

A New York judge ruled last month that Donald Trump is required to pay $354.9 million in fines for falsely inflating his net worth to mislead lenders, a decision that represents a considerable legal blow to the former U.S. president in a civil lawsuit that threatens the future of his real estate business. Including interest, the amount owed by Trump to the state has escalated to $456.8 million. This financial obligation, especially as Trump seeks to challenge the ruling, indicates a significant strain on his finances, hinting at a dire liquidity crisis for the ex-president.

Other cases

As of now, Trump’s legal strategy seems to be effective in all other instances. However, recent developments in the Georgia case have posed challenges. A judge’s recent decision significantly eased the process for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to advance her case. Last week, Willis accepted the resignation of her chief deputy, with whom she was romantically involved, a move that assures her continued prosecution of the criminal case against Donald Trump for his attempts to contest the outcome of the 2020 election in Georgia.

Judge decision

Following a decisive judgment from the presiding judge, Fani Willis acted promptly, opting to remain as the lead prosecutor in the high-profile case against Trump and numerous associates, charged under Georgia’s state racketeering law. The judge had determined that the ongoing situation had become overly disruptive, necessitating a resignation from either Willis or her deputy, Nathan Wade. Wade’s subsequent resignation was a foregone conclusion, allowing Willis to continue her prosecutorial duties.

Trump’s strategy didn’t work as expected

Trump’s attempts to dislodge Fani Willis from the case did not yield the anticipated outcome. Such a maneuver would have represented a significant victory for Trump, potentially derailing the trial’s progression before the November elections. However, this turn of events places Trump at a disadvantage, with Willis likely to expedite the trial proceedings, garnering increased public support for this approach.

Texas Democrat supports Fani Willis

Following the announcement by Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee that Willis would continue to lead the prosecution against Trump, should Special Prosecutor Wade be removed, Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) voiced her strong backing on X. Crockett, with her background as a civil rights attorney and public defender, called for Willis to advance the case with utmost urgency.

Inappropriate comments

“Now bury this orange heathen under the jail. No election win for the Presidency can protect him from being ordered to the Georgia Department of Corrections,” Crockett wrote on X.

“Fani Willis & her office can continue their prosecution so long as Special Prosecutor Wade is removed. The decision is odd based upon the law, but honestly, this sounds like the judge exercising as much caution as possible to protect the record if & when Trump is convicted,” she continued.

That was followed by her encouraging all the prosecutors taking the former president to court to proceed quickly.

She wrote, “I say give him his Constitutional Right for all 80+ criminal counts… (His Right to a Speedy Trial!)”

Possible constitutional crisis

While a portion of Crockett’s followers concurred with her stance, others expressed dissent. Interestingly, one particular comment highlighted a previously unnoticed legal issue, a point that Crockett later acknowledged as valid.

“So if he does win the next election but loses his court case he still has to report to jail while in office?” one user asked?

“He presents yet another constitutional crisis for the United States because well half our country saw fit to elect a mofo faces cases all over. You know how the states have rule over women’s bodies because that’s the Rethuglican way… well it will be kinda the same… he is supposed to become property of the State of Georgia, but it would also be an issue of national security for our country. I’d argue that he is “incapacitated.” I just hope we are not even having to figure this out, ever, because prayerfully he won’t be re-elected,” Crockett responded.
