In response to: South Carolina State Fair awards $540,000 in scholarships to students statewide
Letter:
Dear Editor,
I read about the South Carolina State Fair handing out $540,000 in scholarships this year and it reminded me how much good this program actually does. One of the best things happening for regular students in our state.
My niece got one of these two years ago. It was a real help. That $10,000 spread out over her time in school took some of the weight off — tuition, books, the little things that add up fast when you’re trying to get through college without drowning in debt. She didn’t have to stress quite as much about working extra hours just to stay afloat, and our family felt it too.
These awards go to kids all over South Carolina who are working hard and planning to stay in-state. It’s not just a check. It’s breathing room for families who are already stretching every dollar. Knowing the Fair has been doing this since 1997 and has put nearly $6.5 million toward students says a lot.
Stuff like this matters more than people realize. It gives kids a shot and shows them someone’s investing in where they’re headed. Hope it keeps going strong.
