Florence honors police officers for courage and commitment during National Police Week

Florence, South Carolina – Florence is taking time this week to recognize the officers who serve the city with steady dedication, quiet sacrifice and daily courage as communities across the country observe National Police Week.

For the Florence Police Department, the work does not pause when the day ends. Officers respond in the early morning hours, late at night, on weekends and holidays, often stepping into moments when residents are facing fear, uncertainty or crisis.

Their duties stretch far beyond patrol cars and emergency calls. They assist victims, guide young people, build trust through community engagement and stand ready during some of the city’s most difficult situations.

City officials and community members are using the week as an opportunity to honor that service and remind residents of the human commitment behind the badge. Law enforcement, they noted, is not only a career but a calling shaped by responsibility, discipline and sacrifice.

“Day and night, our officers answer the call with courage, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the City of Florence,” the message of appreciation stated.

The recognition also extends to the families of Florence officers, whose support often comes with its own sacrifices. Missed holidays, long shifts and unpredictable schedules are part of life for many law enforcement families. Behind each officer is often a spouse, child, parent or loved one who also carries the weight of public service.

During National Police Week, Florence is asking residents to pause and show appreciation for the men and women who continue to serve the community each day. Their work may be visible during emergencies, but much of their service happens quietly, through prevention, reassurance, presence and persistence.

“To every member of the Florence Police Department: Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your professionalism. Thank you for your commitment to keeping Florence safe,” the statement continued.

The week’s message is simple but meaningful: the Florence Police Department’s service is noticed, valued and deeply appreciated. As the city marks National Police Week, residents are encouraged to recognize the officers who protect neighborhoods, assist families, support victims and continue answering the call whenever Florence needs them.
