Florence County Sheriff’s Deputy Tommy Rauch honored with Jack Cover Award for bravery

Florence County, South Carolina – The Florence County Sheriff’s Office’s (FCSO) Corporal Tommy Rauch has received the coveted Jack Cover Award which serves as an incredible recognition of his bravery and dedication to public safety. The award, which honors extraordinary bravery and commitment to save life, was given on April 24, at Axon Week 2024 in Miami Beach.

Rauch’s outstanding praise comes from the brave way he acted in a tense situation at Magnolia Mall on May 3, 2023. Rauch used the taser his agency gave him instead of a gun to de-escalate the situation with an armed murder suspect because there were bystanders nearby. His quick and careful efforts stopped things from getting worse and guaranteed public safety. He had already won the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association Valor Award in 2023 for his brave actions in the Magnolia Mall incident.

A part of the RISE Awards, the Jack Cover Award honors officers who go above and beyond their duties and show tremendous amounts of courage, creativity, and kindness. Rauch is honored for his personal bravery as well as his steadfast dedication to improving officer safety, openness, and life protection. Because of the standard of excellence his leadership has established, he is an FCSO and beyond role model.

“We are incredibly proud of Tommy’s achievement and the positive impact he has had on our agency and community,” Sheriff TJ Joye said in a press release. “This prestigious award exemplifies Tommy’s unwavering dedication to excellence in policing, utilizing cutting-edge technology to elevate public safety and enrich the lives of our residents. He epitomizes the highest standards of our agency, embodying professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to service.”
