Florence County man arrested for allegedly fabricating hit-and-run accident to obtain $25,000 insurance payout

Florence County, South Carolina – Following an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), a 33-year-old Dalzell resident has been charged with insurance fraud. Joshua Poole is accused of trying to fraudulently obtain financial benefits by impersonating a victim and submitting false insurance claims.

According to the investigation, Poole reportedly created a hit-and-run event in February and falsely reported it to Progressive Insurance. Documents show Poole asked the insurance company for a $25,000 payment for an event officials said never happened. The claimed deception did not stop at the fabricated claim.

Additional accusations directed against Poole center on identity theft over several months. The arrest warrants claim Poole is suspected of using recorded statements—more especially, their identity and date of birth—from another person to influence a Sentry Insurance policy from February through April. To get a better insurance rate, he allegedly tried adding or deleting cars from the policy.

Authorities underlined that Poole was not a listed driver on the policy in question and that the victim Poole is accused of utilizing had no financial interest in the relevant vehicles.
