Community groups invited to march in Florence Black History Month parade on February 21

Florence, South Carolina – The Florence community is getting ready for the 3rd Annual Pat Gibson Moore Black History Month Parade, which will be on Saturday, February 21. The event encourages people, families, and groups to respect Black history while also celebrating culture, community pride, and unity.

The parade will be held in Florence, with activities beginning early in the morning. Participants will line up starting at 9:00 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Evans Street. The parade is scheduled to step off promptly at 10:00 a.m., moving through the area as spectators gather along the route to show their support.

Organizers encourage a lot of different groups to join and participate. Schools, churches, bands, student groups, and community groups are all welcome to join in by marching, riding, or representing their group. A $30 fee each group is necessary to take part. The money will go toward organizing the event, making it safe, and operating the parade as a whole.

After the parade, the fun will continue with a Black History Month gathering at Willie T’s, which is next to Thompson’s Barber Shop at 212 North Dargan Street. The event after the parade will provide people in the community a chance to get together in a more casual setting and reflect on what the day meant to them. There will also be vendor spaces available at this site for anyone who wants to take part.
