Columbia Metropolitan Airport to develop 150-room hotel offering direct access to the terminal for travelers

Columbia, South Carolina – Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) is making a big move to improve its campus by adding a new hotel project meant to meet the demands of its visitors. Perfectly situated at the junction of Airport Boulevard and Aviation Way, Alia Bostaji from Colliers | South Carolina will assist CAE turn an almost two-acre area into a four-story, 150-room hotel.

Developed through a ground leasing agreement, the intended hotel promises to significantly improve the convenience and quality of services given to passengers. With easy access to main thoroughfares like Platt Springs Road and Airport Boulevard, the site guarantees high visibility and accessibility, so attracting both traffic from the 55,000 daily vehicles and guests to surrounding attractions including the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden and the University of South Carolina.

Bostaji says the main goal of this project is to “enhance the overall experience at CAE for the growing number of passengers.” Designed not only as an accommodation venue but also as a full-service facility with a fitness center, conference spaces, rooftop bar and restaurant providing expansive views over the airfield. Such facilities are supposed to assist the larger land development plan of the airport and satisfy the growing demand for first-rate lodging.

Mike Gula, President and CEO at CAE, emphasized the practical benefits of the hotel.

“This hotel will significantly ease the travel experience, particularly for those with early-morning or late-night flights,” said Gula. “Travelers can arrive the night before, enjoy a comfortable stay, and conveniently walk directly from the hotel into the terminal in the morning.”

The conceptual site designs of the hotel indicate a modern design that fits very well with the current infrastructure of the airport, therefore improving the visual and practical attractiveness of the surrounds of the airport. Together with a breezeway linking to the main terminal, the strategic placement next to the surface and garage parking emphasizes the careful design of the project.
