Columbia launches citywide game nights to build community and foster fun for all ages with Councilwoman Herbert

Columbia, South Carolina – Working with District 1 Councilwoman Tina N. Herbert, Columbia’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement is organizing a series of lively game nights to communities throughout the city. Whether you enjoy board games, cards, or video games, the program is meant to promote connection, create a friendly environment for people to gather, and provide something for everybody.

Lorick Park on Lorick Avenue will host the first event on May 23, 2025. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; the fun goes on until 7:00 p.m. The game nights will then move around different neighborhood parks; next dates are set for Hyatt Park on July 25, Greenview Park on September 26, and then back to Lorick Park on December 5.

Every event is meant for all ages, so it’s a wonderful outing for families, friends’ groups, or anyone wanting to relax and get to know new neighbors. Attendees may look forward to a laid-back atmosphere where people from many backgrounds can participate in the activities, laugh together, and enjoy light snacks offered by the hosts. From card sharks to chess experts to those simply interested in trying their hand at a new board game, there is something for everyone.

Every event will feature Councilwoman Herbert, who will provide locals a chance to speak with her in a friendly, casual environment. These evenings are about more than just games; they are about creating more engaged, safer, and stronger communities.

The Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement hopes these events would inspire more involvement in community life and provide enduring experiences for attendees. Organizers are eager to see people of all ages come together to make these evenings a regular feature of the neighborhood calendar given simple access, no cost, and activities meant to attract everybody.

For those who are interested, there is no need to sign up in advance; simply visit any of the sites on the specified dates and participate in the enjoyment. As the team implements this new custom in cooperation with Councilwoman Herbert, they are eager to see both new and familiar faces.
