City of Florence launches search for a new police chief focused on transparency, ethics, and modern community policing

Florence, South Carolina – The City of Florence is looking for its new Chief of Police and is asking experienced law enforcement leaders to come forward. City authorities want a candidate who not only has experience in law enforcement, but who cares profoundly about connecting with the community, using modern techniques, and being an ethical leader.

The best person for the job is someone who can make good connections with people inside and outside of the department. Florence wants a chief who can bring together officers, municipal departments, nearby agencies, and people, and who believes that working together is an important aspect of good policing. The future chief should be visible, present, and involved in the community, not just sitting behind a desk all day.

This search is all about leadership style. The city wants a leader that is open, kind, and humble. One of the most important things is to support police officers while still being friendly and approachable. The job requires someone who can listen, speak clearly, and build trust among both police officers and those who live in Florence. Integrity, responsibility, and being easy to talk to are some of the most important qualities.

The job also requires a forward-thinking way of thinking about law enforcement. Florence wants someone who sees technology and new ideas as ways to improve modern policing. The future chief should know a lot about South Carolina legislation and use data, modern tools, and best practices to make safety and service better. A big part of the job will be knowing the laws of the state and working well with county and state law enforcement.
