Florence County, South Carolina – In what appears to be an unexpected turn of events, Emmanuel Williams has chosen not to take over the Chief of Police role in Lake City. This leaves the community and city officials to ponder the next steps for the local police department. This change comes soon after Williams, a sergeant at the Bennettsville Police Department, was picked for the job, which marked a change in how the city planned to run its police force.
Williams seemed enthusiastic about the chance to lead and bring the community together before he quit, but he didn’t give any more information about his unexpected decision. As a result of his resignation, William A. Hall, the city administrator, said that the Florence County Sheriff Department would help run the Lake City Police Department while the city decides about its future.
The search for a new chief was over. Williams was chosen from more than twenty suitable applicants from all over South Carolina and other states. A public event at the Continuum where the final candidates were introduced to the community showed the community’s involvement and enthusiasm for its next police chief.
Lake City’s leaders, including Mayor Yamekia Robinson, were looking forward to Williams’ coming and saw his appointment as a step toward stability and better leadership in the Police Department. Williams, who was born and raised in Cheraw and graduated from Coker University, had planned to move to Lake City with his family in order to make the town feel more positive and united.

The hiring group will meet again to make a new plan, but the city is still determined to find the right person for the important job.
The committee has to find people with the same energy and direction that Williams said he would bring to the job.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Department is helping out in the meantime to make sure that the city’s law enforcement needs are met without any problems.
